The Gender Sci Lab is a collaborative, interdisciplinary research lab dedicated to generating concepts, methods, and theories for scientific research on sex and gender. Through research, teaching, and public outreach, we work to advance the intersectional study of gender in the biomedical and allied sciences, counter bias and hype in sex difference research, and enhance public discourse surrounding the sciences of sex and gender.
Recent contributions:
Peer reviewed articles in Psychological Science, Human Fertility, The Lancet, Science, Nature, and Cell among many others
Our research on sperm decline, ACL knee injury, adverse drug events widely cited and covered by the New York Times, Vox Media, and the Harvard Gazette.
Developed a data tracker to document sex disparities in COVID-19 outcomes for all 50 states, accessed over 50,000 times and cited in multiple peer-reviewed publications.
Created accessible materials communicating our research to the public, including research guides for scientists, communication guides for policymakers and journalists, curricula for classroom use, and dozens of plain-language “explainers” of lab research on the Lab’s widely accessed academic blog.
Op-eds in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, and The Boston Globe
Trained 45 students across 12 disciplines, with notable placement outcomes including seven tenure-track positions
